Our Method Used & AMICHIEN© BONDING
The method that Dog Listeners follow is called Amichien© Bonding-derived from French Ami (to love) and chien (dog)
What is Amichien© Bonding?
Amichien© Bonding is a process that enables us to provide our dogs with signals that leaves them in no doubt about our leadership.
- It is gentle.
- It is kind.
- It is clear, firm and consistent
Pioneered by Jan Fennell, it is being continually developed and refined through her extensive and ongoing study of the communication and behaviour between wolves in their natural habitat.
Dog listening is based on the evidence that our domestic dogs are descendents of the wolf and the fact that our dogs adhere to the principles of hierarchy within their pack. The human family has become their pack.
Central to the process is the dog's need for an effective leader.
In the absence of clear, consistent and convincing leadership signals from human beings, the dog will take over the role of leader of the pack. Given that their pack is now the human family and vastly different from their ancestral origin our dogs are out their depth tackling a job that they are not equipped to do. Consequently humans are faced with behaviours such as jumping up, constant attention seeking, excessive barking, pulling on lead and these are difficult to resolve.
Amichien© Bonding is designed to manage such behaviours. It is gadget-free: it nourishes mutual respect, trust and love between you and your dog.
Amichien© Bonding addresses leadership in the four areas that are important for a dog: these are
- Who is leader?
- Who controls the food?
- Who protects us from danger?
- Who leads when out for a walk?
